In 2020, the Czech Republic adopted the updated document "Strategy of Environmental Security 2021–2030 with a view to 2050. The strategy was created to respect and fulfill relevant national and international strategic documents. It is mainly about the Strategic Concept of NATO, the Security Strategy of the Czech Republic, the Internal Security Strategy of the EU and the activities of the UN, especially disaster risk reduction in the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030. The goal of the strategy is to limit the risk of disasters caused by the interaction of the environment and society (especially disasters of anthropogenic and natural origin), reduce the effects of disaster, if they could not be prevented, and increase environmental safety.
Both individual components of the environment and entire ecosystems can be critically endangered, which in the long term are not always adequately replaceable by technological progress. The security of ecosystems and their basic functions (i.e. the provision of ecosystem services) is one of the main security issues for the long-term maintenance of the quality of human life. Serious damage to the environment can represent a threat to the basic functions of the state. The strategy was preceded by the Strategy of Environmental Security 2012–2015 with a view to 2020 and the Strategy of Environmental Security 2016–2020 with a view to 2030. |
