Relevance/rationale of the indicator (resp. why the indicator was chosen to measure the target and how it is suitable for these purposes) |
The indicator expresses the number of deaths from inadequate water, sanitation and hygiene (with focus on WASH services) which could be prevented by improving those services and practices. It is based on both the WASH service provision in the country, as well as the related health outcomes, and therefore provides important information on the actual disease caused by the risks measured in targets 6.1 and 6.2. |

Comment |
Before the change in the definition of the indicator in 2022 (inclusion of some respiratory diseases in this group of causes of death), the time series for Czechia can be considered comparable since 2011, after the implementation of the software for the selection of the underlying cause of death. The group of those deaths consisted mainly of deaths from 'other bacterial infections' (A04), 'nutritional marasmus' (E41) and 'unspecified severe protein-energy malnutrition' (E43); and the majority of deceased persons were elderly. Following the change in definition of the indicator, the majority of the deceased are those with pneumonia as the cause of death. |
