It quantifies the emphasis on a preventive approach in health care and it shows the financial situation within one of the determinants of health. The indicator is composed of items related to both primary and secondary prevention, which include very different types of activities. Therefore, it is necessary to assess the development of individual sub-components of the indicator and to monitor expenditures on primary and secondary prevention separately. |

Public expenditure on prevention includes (in particular) expenditure on health literacy, education, education and counseling, vaccination programs, health monitoring (primary prevention) and expenditure on screenings, diagnostic tests and medical examinations (secondary prevention). Expenditure in absolute terms and as a share of total public expenditure on health. |
